Let's Go Electric Together

Charging When Traveling

Ford established the "Blue Oval Charge Network and is composed of over 19,000 charging stations with 63K plugs and growing, making public charging locations as common as some pharmacies and popular coffee chains.

On the FordPass®** App or your SYNC®*** 4A Navigation screen, you'll be able to see which charging stations are available, the cost to charge (many are free), and even save your favorites. Find the optimal places to stop for the least amount of downtime with the FordPass App Power My Trip feature.

The BlueOval Charge Network provides you the ability to charge your Electric Vehicle (EV) at an in-network charge station through Plug and Charge or activation through the FordPass App.

Plug and Charge allows you to pull up to a charging station and plug in to start the charge. You do not need your phone to do so.

BlueOval Charge Network Infrastructure Providers

Here are some of the charging providers keeping you moving:

  • FLO
  • EVgo

To get started, all you need to do is activate your access to the BlueOval Charge Network and use the FordPass App to find and activate chargers.

Why go electric?

Never go to a gas station again. Spending that time at home with family and friends, it is as simple as plugging in a power cord, just like charging your phone.

There are Four Basic Ways to Charge an Electric Vehicle:

Level 1 Charging:

All electric vehicles can be charged by plugging in the appropriate cable into any household power outlet. This power cable is included as part of the lease or purchase of the electric vehicle. This method is Level 1 charging. While this method of charging is the most convenient, it is the slowest method of replenishing power.

Level 2 Charging:

While Level one is the most convenient method and the less expensive, waiting nearly 2 days to charge your vehicle is not an ideal solution. Level 2 Charging offers a faster charging time. Level 2 charging stations are showing up at malls, hotels, parking spaces, and office complexes. Level 2 charging stations can be complimentary perks, but others require a paid subscription or one-time payment. Level 2 charging can speed up the charging process reaching an optimal level after 4 to 8 hours. The good news is that you can have Level 2 charging at your home too. It will require professional installation of charging equipment, and possibly modification of your home's electrical panel.

Level 3 Charging Or Quick Charging:

Quick Charging or Level 3 charging is the quickest way to recharge your EV's available today. Quick Charging stations can be found at dedicated stations which require a subscription or payment. If you are taking a trip or missed charging your vehicle the day before. The newest EV's can take advantage of Quick Charging by connecting the vehicle to a 350 KW DC fast charger, your electric vehicle will be charged the fastest!

Charging Stations:

As EV's become constant on our roadways, charging stations are easier to locate. You see them in malls, grocery stores, office buildings, hotels and even rest stops on many highways. With an app on your phone you can join a network that can locate the nearest station. These networks are growing across the nation and finding them is as simple as visiting a website or mobile app. Many EVs will already have charging locations in the navigation system. Just a few of these networks are; EVgo, Electrify America, Shell Recharge, and Charge Point.

What is an MPGe?

Most everyone knows about MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and most are concerned about the MPG a vehicle considering their purchase based on their driving habits. For EVs, the EPA based it around the fact that the energy in a gallon of gasoline was equivalent to 33.7 kilowatt-hours (kWh). See example of MPGe that is located on the window sticker of EV's:
